Default Fishing from the Beach

A group of us went to an uncrowded Atlantic beach this summer to do some fishing. Every time we would get set up, some family would come and start swimming or sand castling within 20-30 yards of us. Luckily, no one got snagged by our fishing lines, but the parents would give us dirty looks for fishing where their kids were playing.

Anyone have a solution to sharing the beach with swimmers and surfers?

I didn't know you could fish on the Ocean off the shore. I am thinking it was not a tourist spot right? I would be giving you looks too if I was on vacation and paid a lot of money and you were fishing right on the beach. I know most places that I have been on the beach, there are designated fishing areas.

It's an area of the Atlantic where there are rental houses. Typically, each family gets to use the area of beach in front of their own house. It is definitely not a tourist spot. They allow fishing and dogs - as long as no one bothers the turtles.

I've seen places like this on the Outer Banks. It's basically a private beach, and you are supposed to respect each others space.

The turtles - were they loggerheads?
