Default Sea sickness

I'd like to take my grandson on a chartered deep sea fishing trip, but I'm concerned about sea sickness. Are there any tried and true ways to prevent it?

Nothing is tried and true. But best bet is to start taking sea sickness medicine 2-3 days before you get on the water then keep taking it while you are out.

Also, if you get sick, look at something that isn't moving... like the horizon. It tends to calm the stomach and help clear the head.

My kids have luckily never gotten seasick. I think there is something that is sold over-the-counter that you can take to help prevent it. You might just want to ask a pharmacist.

I take something called Dramamine for sea sickness. You can get it from any pharmacy. I find that some brands work better than other brands. I like the Kroger generic brand. Seems to work well and it is a little cheaper than the name brands.

Excellent information and suggestions. I really appreciate it, folks. I like the idea of starting the medication a few days prior, and yes, I will consult with a pharmacist before doing anything.

I'm very prone to motion sickness, always have been. Last time I went deep sea fishing (as a boy), I was so sick and have never been again. Even in the car, when someone else is driving, I have to look straight out the windshield or either sleep. How some people can read or watch movies in a car is beyond me!

Myth Busters proved (in a very limited study, as always) that there is no universal cure for it and that it depends on the person. I get sea sick even on land due to my sensitivity.

This is the reason I can never step foot on a large boat that is going anywhere close to "out at sea". I have issues in almost anything moving and its not always getting sick, its more like passing out or a mini panic attack.

Growing a pair of sea legs is always a great start, aside from that its all mental.
