Default Are there any spearfishermen/women here?

Hi everyone. I'm pretty new to the forum I was wondering if anyone here spearfishes.

I mainly spearfish in the Caribbean, near the Virgin Islands. I want to try spearfishing in the Pacific Ocean and I was wondering if anyone out there had any advice on locations to start from or time of year to go.

Also I would love to hear about any other locations you might have spearfished.

Me, I fish but I have never done this though I am willing to try! I sometimes forget what I am doing since I do not get the chance to hang on my uncles boat much (he was invited to help with the Bass Masters this past year, a little jealous).

Not unless you count a few times when I was in my teens running around shallow water throwing spears at stingray. Believe it or not, they are good to eat. I would boil them to help remove the skin before cooking them.

Stingray is a good meal, but most people (the people I spearfish with anyway) have to actually get submerged in the water with the fish to actually catch anything.

Personally I prefer spearfishing to line fishing. I like getting in the water and having to chase the fish I'm trying to get, but that's just me.

Hey I go spearfishing a lot. You say you are in the Caribbean, right? I like to fish near the Puerto Rico trench or sometimes off the North drop of St. Thomas. Every now and then me and some friends of mine get in a boat and go down island.
