Phoenix 22 pistol

I wouldn't use this for hunting, but I have an opportunity to buy a Phoenix 22 semiautomatic for $50. I was thinking it would be a good little pistol to carry while camping or hiking in remote locations. Does anyone have experience with these pistols?

My question would be "What do you plan on using it for?"

No experience with the Phoenix, but I once had similar thoughts about a Jennings 22. Got over them pretty quickly in actual use, but that's just me and my "Colt quality standard" expectations.

If you do this, I would suggest you fire at least 200 rounds through it before you trust it with your life. Roll it in the snow, drop it in the dirt, freeze it in a baggie - test it in harsh conditions.

For 50 bucks, I'd go buy a 12 gauge flare pistol at Walmart and feel more prepared than carrying that Jennings.

Sounds like the .32 auto MAB (French) pistol I pickup up in a trade as "boot".

Fairly reliable, pipsqueak round, not terribly accurate in my hands, so I didn't have much use for it.

However, I put it out on indefinite loan to a friend of mine that absolutely loves it. She is fiendishly accurate with it, and I have yet to see a single failure to feed or stovepipe.

It would be better than nothing as a defensive round (particularly the way she shoots it!), and you could probably pot a rabbit or squirrel or other small animal with it in a pinch.

I guess it just means that not everything suits everyone.

Phoenix Arms was out of Ontario, California. They made several models of a semi-auto pistol in .22LR. It is my understanding they are no longer in business. I purchased two of their pistols and still have them. They are quite reliable, amazingly accurate, and easily concealable. Ten round magazine.

Thanks for the input! I went ahead and bought it.

I figured for $50, what the heck? My husband is a Colt guy, but this is perfect for me. I've only shot about 40 rounds with it so far, but it seems to be pretty darn accurate.
