| No experience with the Phoenix, but I once had similar thoughts about a Jennings 22. Got over them pretty quickly in actual use, but that's just me and my "Colt quality standard" expectations.
If you do this, I would suggest you fire at least 200 rounds through it before you trust it with your life. Roll it in the snow, drop it in the dirt, freeze it in a baggie - test it in harsh conditions.
For 50 bucks, I'd go buy a 12 gauge flare pistol at Walmart and feel more prepared than carrying that Jennings.
