Default I saw a bear!!

I went out hunting with my husband this morning for deer and I saw a bear! I have never seen a bear that close, and thankfully he/she wasn't paying any attention to me. I knew bears were big but WOW! Bears are REALLY BIG! I didn't even know we had bears around here.

Some bears are really big and they are scary too. What kind of bear was it? We have Black Bear here - but that is it. They don't bother you unless it's the Momma and she has her cubs!

It's probably a good think it didn't see you although it may have been more scared of you then you him. I would be careful though as Hikebike mentioned, you don't want to come between a momma bear and her cubs.

Well I'm glad it was you who saw the bear and not me! I don't think I have ever seen one up to close and out in the open before. Glad it didn't see you or have any clubs near by.

I usually don't trek very far,
when all around me black bears are.

Hi...

Remember that girl wrangler...who earlier this month...I think...chased away a grizzly that was chasing some prey...was distracted by the horses...and went after the horses/riders? They aren't the only bears to be careful around...!!

I think that more maulings are caused by BLACK bears...especially those which have gotten acclimated to humans...than grizzlies. Bottom line: unless you're hunting them, give black bears the same leeway that you would give to grizzlys. They can turn on you in a second...and they can run a LOT faster than you can...!!

Hark...!! Did I just hear a hand grenade explode? Ow! Ow! Ow!

I've seen quite a few bears too. I'm sure the bear probably did see you - they are very aware of their surroundings. It just did not want to cause you any harm. You should have gotten a pic.

I have seen lots of bears as well. Generally, they want nothing to do with you and will turn around and go the other direction. If you do the same, everything is fine.

All the bears I have had close interaction with have been good bears. They want less to do with me than I with them. Both blacks and grizzleys. But I keep reminding myself that if one of those bears had been a naughty bear, I may not be sitting here today.

Did you poke him in the butt with a sharp stick and scream "BOO!"?

He was close enough when we met, I could have but he ran before I could grab a stick

I might add, grabbing a stick was NOT a priority at the time either
