Default Got a whole gang of turkeys

I have a huge gang of turkeys behind our house. Season doesn't start until Oct 30 here though. I swear these guys are just taunting me. It's like they know that it's not turkey season yet.

My neighbor told me when I moved in he came home around Thanksgiving to about 30 turkey's in his yard. It was a few years ago, but I have yet to see a single one out here.

Hey, at least you're ethical Roy. I know some boys that would be out there trying to shoot them regardless of what season it is. Anyhow, so is that how you go about getting your Thanksgiving turkey then? Or do you get it from a grocery store?

Roy, they will probably all be gone by the time it's legal to hunt them. We used to have quite a few, but they all have gone now. I think there have been too many people to move in up the hollow for their taste.

I know where some are. There is a little strip of woods on the way to my parents house and about ten of them hang out there. Right next to a sign that says NO HUNTING. I had no idea that turkeys could read!

They do seem to read minds, don't they. I have a flock that likes to stroll through my garden every morning. I had the darnedest time raising corn this year, they kept picking up the corn before it would sprout. So I borrowed a dog that likes to chase things. The turkeys still stroll through but the dog doesn't let them linger long.

Hi...

We've got turkeys all over this County, but no pheasants. A few decades ago, we had pheasants all over this County, but no turkeys...!! At that time we (including myself) were raising and releasing pheasants in various areas in the County. They thrived for a while, and then "disappeared." Don't know what happened to them.

The pheasants were released in time to be acclimated to outdoors living, and were released on lands that were posted against hunting, to help ensure their survival.

But I hear talk about pheasants being re-introduced into this area. I hope so. Another game bird will be sort of a bonus here.

Pathfinder1, We tried that with quail. Unfortunately, as soon as we released them, there were all kinds of poaching. I don't understand why people who like them don't just go ahead and raise them on their own. I've done that too and I love quail meat. They're small but delicious!

We used to have turkeys on our property regularly when we only had one dog. Once we got our second dog, though they have moved on up the road to our neighbor's place.

There seems to be a nice sized flock in our area. They move around a good bit though, but I'm thinking that next season I might try my luck. Some guys say they're pretty good tasting, but it's one thing I've never tried before.
