Default Pheasants

Does anyone still hunt these anymore? I remember as a child we used to have a stuffed one in our den and it used to give me nightmares. The craziest bird I had ever seen. It was huge and scared the jibbys outta me!

Of course we hunt them. They are delectable. We just don't stuff them, hang them on a wall, and brag about what we've killed. I always apologize to the animals I kill. It goes something like this:"Sorry, little brother, but I need the meat.".

Pheasants are a beautiful animal. We have some that live in our field, and we love to spy on them. We have never hunted them, except with a camera. I have always wondered about the purpose of the white ring around their neck. It is obviously not for camouflage. Does anyone know its purpose?

These guys run wild around my home. I have never killed or eaten one, seems like too much work for that little amount of food.

Phesant are wonderful game animals, they are a blast to hunt especialy if you are out finding them with a good hunting dog. To top it off they taste great almost any way you prepare them. They are like a more flavorful version of chicken and most everyone who has ever tried any i have gotten has enjoyed them. If you ever get a chance i would highly reccommend trying some even if hunting is not youre cup of tea.

I have a Vizsla pup who loves these birds. I think upland bird hunting probably wouldn't be popular enough to warrant a season if it weren't for the profound pleasure it is to hunt over a good dog. The meat is excellent, and I agree with Dinosaur, it is always appropriate to acknowledge the taking of a life with thanks, I too say it out loud so it stays at the front of my mind as a part of the hunt. I still get a little sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach whenever I kill an animal, but I eat meat, so killing it myself is appropriate as well.
