Default Hitchhiking Canoe Style

A few years back we were camping out on Vancouver Island in B.C. in a rugged area. We met up with a guy who was walking but was faced with trying to get across a lake that was farther across than he realized. He asked if he could hitch a ride in our canoe. So we loaded him and his backpack and started paddling to where he wanted to be according to his map. We get to the spot only to be confronted with a black bear. Since we couldn't drop him off there, we had to go quite a bit farther. The trip turned out to be a lot longer than we planned on.
