| The kayaks used to shoot rapids and travel on rivers are different from the ones used in ocean waters. Some sea kayaks have a rudder to assist with the 'steering' of the vessel, and a river kayak would quickly lose such a feature in the first white-water run.
I have a friend that used to do white-water kayaking in Central British Columbia, I tried sitting in the type of kayak he uses, and promptly up-ended myself.
