Default Kayak down the road

It rained real good last week and they put some pictures in the paper this week of how bad some spots got. Just on the next county road over from us there were some kids who had drug out the kayak and the current was good enough it carried them a bit. How crazy is that.

When I was a teenager we lived in an area where we got a ton of rain and there were areas that would get that way. We would pull out tubes and attach them to the back of an ATV and pull each other down the road.

I have seen this as well growing up when we lived in a valley, after a bad storm thats what kids did in the front yard. Hey! It kept them being good right?

We have some that do things like that out here too. It is funny to sit and watch some of their facial expressions and listen to them when they are going at something like this. lol

When we would have a deluge like that in the summer time when I was young we would put the car in the yard and wash it! We had a blast with soap and soapy sponges. If the rain stopped before the car was done we just drug out the hose and finished. Bathing suits were always at the ready during the summer time.

That is funny! It sounds like something my boys would do! These kids took something bad into something good. Nothing like turning lemons into lemonade

Our property floods so bad at times that the previous owners used to use an inflatable boat to get to their cars. My husband and I haven't resorted to that yet, but we often joke that when our daughter is old enough she's going to want a boat just for the fun of it. And I think she'd have so much fun with that we'll probably agree to get her one.

We had a no name storm come through in I believe 1994. The water came up to the house, and after it settled some I managed to get my canoe out and paddle through some areas that were normally land. Yes, that was the dock floating through our back yard.

Then there was another storm, cannot remember if it was a hurricane that was close by or a tropical storm. But the street got flooded up to around my knees.

Wow. I'm all for canoeing or kayaking down the road or through the yard, but that looks like it caused some damage. As much as I love nature, sometimes it isn't very kind.

Well the first house it caused some minor damage. We got off lucky compared to others. The carpet had to be replaced, and I think that was it for interior damage. There was some yard work that needed to be done, and a new dock built. Some people in the area sat lower then we did at the time. They had water up to around three or four feet in their house and had to replace a lot of things. At that level things like fridges get affected, and low lying electronics. It also gets into the outlets.

The second time was not bad. It did not get close to the house.

Florida is funny though. Half the time they complain we are in a drought. But if we get a few days of heavy rain, there are streets that get closed. They cannot handle large amounts of rain down here. Not sure if other parts of Florida is the same or not.
