Default Penobscot River Canoe trips?

I am not a terribly competent paddler but I think it would be fun take a trip on the Penobscot River in Maine. I'm ordinarily more of a solitary traveler, but since I'm not that great on the water, I thought a group tour would a good idea.

I checked with Northwoods Outfitters and they said it's too late for this season so I guess I have the whole winter to decide.

I'm still not sure how I feel about touring with a bunch of strangers but could be fun.

wildrover,

Don't let the strangers stop you. Most of the people on earth that are interested in running a gorgeous and famous river like the Penobscot are probably good people. It is the perfect filter. You will have new canoeing friends. I live in the west, and am jealous of your plan.

I've always had a good time on raft trips even with total strangers. I've actually made a couple of friends that way. You already have something in common if you want to be one the water.

Penobscot river!!Boy does that bring back memories from 50 or so years ago!Used to fly fish that with my Dad.Talk about wilderness,i have a picture somewhere of me and sis feeding wild coons at our campfire.Of course there is probably a condo now where we camped .Of course now you won't have to contend with the logs floating down.Ya we did have to abort a fishing trip because of that!It was the last time we went .
