That's a fact, they are not allowed in the Boundary Waters. Maybe the best strategy there is to pick a place and route that that minimizes the portaging as much as possible.

Even when portage carts are allowed, they are not always practical due to the rough terrain. That said, I wouldn't be without mine. I live about a half mile from a river and just walk my canoe down the street on the cart. It makes it so easy to canoe even by myself and is much easier than putting it on and off the car.

I got my cart at REI and it's served me well for 8 years!
