Default Rafting

Where are good places in the middle eastern USA to go rafting. I have always wanted to go white water rafting, but I don't know anybody that has went or wants to.

New River Gorge, Fayetteville, West Virginia. Use River Expedition, or Ace.....

I went white water rafting in Colorado and have a great picture of my daughter doing the same at age 9. It was kind of a kick but doesn't beat four wheeling in the snow. Of course I'm not talking about a little Yamaha or Suzuki. I mean a four wheel drive truck on 45 degree grades with summer washes and small trees in the way. Of course that's just my opinion and it has a lot to do with availability. Where I live we get this opportunity for a few months a year.

The Fraser River in British Columbia offers some of the wickedest rafting: Hell's Gate is famous for it's rapids and ride.

The Thompson River isn't bad, either.

If your looking for the best whitewater and commercial trips, then the New/Gauley rivers are a fantastic place to start. There are many great rivers and even more great outfitters in the eastern US but the Fayatteville area has everything you could want for. I was a long time user of Mountain River Tours, but a few yeas ago there were a bunch of mergers and they were obsorbed by another guide service. Since then I have fallen in love with Ace! Just google Ace Adventure Resort. They have plenty of other attractions as well. Either way, there are an abundance of great outfits in the area.
p.s. go see "The Mystery Hole" while in the area. Just ask around- you'll find it!
Good Luck and Happy Paddling
