| 2012 National Cowboy Poetry Gathering This year the super bowl of poetry will be Jan 30- Feb 4, 2012 as usual in Elko, NV. Due to the recession it is possible to get tickets much later than usual. Housing is also still available, just ask the Chamber of Commerce who still has room. The musical line-up will be stellar this year with the likes of Ian Tyson, Michael Matrin Murphey, Wylie and the Wild West, Hot Club of Cowtown, and RW Hampton.
Sing'er out my buckaroos! Let the desert hear the news.
Tell the stars the way we rubbed the haughty down.
We're the fiercest wolves a-prowlin' and it's just our night for howlin'.
When we're ridin' up the rocky trail from town.
Badger Clark about 1906
excerpt from the poem "From Town"
This is the greatest example of horse culture left in North America. It is the friendliest meeting I have ever been to, and there has never been a fight in 27 years. It is in the same league with Burning Man, Grateful Dead concerts, and the Rainbow Festival. Do not miss your chance to have a life changing experience.

Do any of our posters write poetry? (I have).

| Not me, I just plagarize others, but I sure love to listen to a good story teller. I'd drive out to Elko but got another must do that week.

Cow Pie
I stepped upon a cow pie
and smashed that sucker flat.
I wish my cows would bury them
like a kitty cat.
I could walk through the pasture
without ever looking down.
I would never slip and slide
on those mounds of brown.
If I ware my shoes inside,
my wife just has a fit.
She wrinkles her nose and says,
"Something smells like S##T!"
I don't blame cows for cow pies.
I know they mean no harm.
For this is just a fact of life,
when living on a farm.

| Grandpa,
You are an entertaining fellow. She is my partner of 13 years, and lots of people are still trying to figure out what she is doing with the likes of me.
From Cindy's book "Presents in the Sage"-
Today on our three acres of paradise,
we returned our oldest pony to the snaffle bit of his youth,
out of respect, out of kindness, out of love,
while bald eagle symbols of freedom
rode thermals overhead by dawn's early light,
and our pups, full and content from their morning meals,
romped and played throught the sagebrush at our feet.
Tonight, as we watch God's artwork unfold from our sunset porch,
I can't help but ponder on strangers,
half a world and a universe away,
brother and sisters to us all,
hungry, tired, war-weary,
and wonder where in their world will they ever see,
the sweet hand of God.

| I just love Baxter Black!!
"As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free," - The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
"....I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country - Victory or Death." - William B. Travis, Feb. 1836, The Alamo. |

| Cindy opened two nights last summer for Baxter Black. I used to listen to him on the local radio show out of Loveland, CO back in the 1980s. Baxter is very personable and definitely a wacky guy. I found him to be somewhat awkward around strangers, but he is the real thing and the "western Robin Williams."
