Default Ar you near a national park?

If the government would have shut down last week, and the national parks would have closed, would that have put a dent in any of your upcoming travel plans? Are you near a national park at all?

I shy away from the National Parks. Too many people. We do occasional backcountry trips in Yellowstone, Glacier and some of the other remote parks. I saw more people in an hour in Yosemite (on the Half Dome trail) than I have seen in years in Yellowstones or Glaciers backcountry.

But for this year, we do have another Yellowstone trip planned. If it falls through there are many sweet places nearby to fall back on.

My husband and I every year go to The Tulelake Lava beds national park. We are like grandpa to many people for us during peak season, so we go in late fall or winter. It wont effect us much we try to get as far away from civilization as possible.

Alice came to a fork in the road," Which road do I take"? she asked.
"Where do you want to go"? responded the cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter".

First the good news: tomorrow is the first day of summer - woohoo! Now the really good news: to mark the official first day of summer, the National Park service is waiving the entry fee to all national parks on June 21. Can't make it tomorrow? Mark your calendar for free days later this year, on National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Veterans Day weekend Nov. 11-13.

Nice note on the freebie days. I don't live near a national park, so unless I'm traveling, I just hike and camp locally. We have a lake near us that's pretty popular since it has some great fishing in addition to some really good trails.
