Default Bugs

The bugs have been so bad this season I’ve tried everything. How do you keep them away from you? Heck we can’t even sit out on the back deck without them pestering us! I don’t think they are just mosquitoes either. Help!

For your deck area, try thermacell.

The Most Effective Mosquito Repellent for Outdoor Areas | ThermaCELL

We had one of these on a backpack this summer and they clear about a 15 ft diameter area outside.

Sounds good, Grandpa. I'll have to check one out. At home, I have a lot of marigold planted around my deck. I also have several other plants that bugs don't seem to like much. I even keep marigolds in pots on the deck. I don't mind the smell, but it seems like the bugs do.

Lemon balm is another good thing to plant around your deck. Also, if you have Osage Orange growing in your area, collect a bunch of the oranges and leave them in a bowl in the middle of your deck. They're not edible but they can be decorative and the citrus smell drives the bugs off (even spiders).

Hopefully you won't have to worry about this one for much longer. With the weather getting colder things should get better. I just wondering if the flooding will have an effect.

Sure it will. More standing water = more mosquitos.
