Default Itch Relief

Okay, so sometimes I forget to re-apply bug repellant, and other times I just forget to apply it, period. The point is, I get covered in mosquito bites, and what I really could use is a great anti-itch ointment, lotion or spray that I could keep at home or in my car. Anyone know any really good ones, or at least the ones that don't work and should be avoided?

Hydrocortisone creams even dollar store brands work well but if you are looking for a guarantee go for Benadryl ant-itch cream in a clear bottle.

If it is only 1 or 2 bites I go with the x method. You use your fingernail and put an x on top of the bite and somehow the itch goes away for a while. Don't know why though. I should include an anti itch cream in the backpack though.

I would think that is just some kind of counter irritation.

I carry Olbas oil for it-the tiniest dot takes away the itch for a very long time.

What is Olbas oil and where do you find it? I've never heard of it. I typically use the cortisone creams, but I have to keep reapplying frequently.

I would really like to know this as well.

As for what I use, I usually use something like Lanacane. I've gotten much better at remembering the bug repellant though, I hate mosquito bites.

Hydrocortisone cream works about the best for me, but a piece of ice held on the bite seems to work pretty good too. A good natural remedy, if you forget the anti itch cream and it grows in your area, is jewelweed. Just cut a stem and rub the juice on the bite. I've used it for everything from bug bites to poison ivy.
