| There are a lot of benign skin conditions that are common during pregnancy. Melasma, for instance, is brownish colored mask-like patches on the face, which may resemble cutaneous lupus. It clears up after delivery. If the doc was basing his/her assessment on just a casual observation of your friend's skin appearance, she should take a deep breath and talk about it with her OB.
