Lupus scare

I have a friend who is pregnant. She went to the doctors with her mom and her moms doctor thought she might have Lupus. The skin kind that is. My friend is now scared. Does anyone know anything about Lupus?

There are a lot of benign skin conditions that are common during pregnancy. Melasma, for instance, is brownish colored mask-like patches on the face, which may resemble cutaneous lupus. It clears up after delivery. If the doc was basing his/her assessment on just a casual observation of your friend's skin appearance, she should take a deep breath and talk about it with her OB.

That is quite a scare, I am surprised that the doctor did not try to educate her more on it before hand. Does she have a personal doctor?
