Default No electronics or TV for a week

Has anyone tried this in the home? Of course it's easy to do when you're out camping but have you actually tried this at home? No computer, television, cellphones, video games, etc. for one week?

I've never done it on a self-inflicted basis. But I read books so I don't think it would be that tough.

Don't think it would work for me here.

Well yeah, for much longer than a week. But not because of anything intentional. I went years before any of those were invented. Well, TV was invented but not available out here.

If I had to, yes I could go for a while without those luxuries. Do I want to? Currently no, I am having too much fun researching stuff on the internet.

When I was in middle school, I attended weekly church services, and one Wednesday night, we were given this exact same challenge. I was in high school at the time and when I found out my parents were actually going to make us all accept the challenge, I freaked! I had such a hard time the first couple days. After about the middle of the week though, it started becoming easier and by the end of the week, I found I preferred reading over all the electronics I had been so hooked on.

Yes, we've done it for a week.

Twice in the past few months we have had week long power outages. So add "no fridge or lights" to that and yeah, I guess we did it, and we adjusted just fine.

Wildrover,

You are on to something very important, especially for young people that have been plugged in their whole lives. Long trips with the RV, say over 3 weeks provide a lot of the same experience. It is a way to appreciate people more. Life operates at a slower pace. We used to have Pioneer Night about once a month and not use any electricity.

On my Dad's ranch the summer headquarter had no plumbing or phone, and the winter headquarters had a generator that ran only a few hours a day. It was a window into how our parents and grandparents grew up.
