panning for gold

With gold prices going up, has anyone considered panning for gold? How did it work out? where did you go?

If there was a place close enough I would. I've done some gem mining, and the place had a river to search for gems. That was a lot of fun.

I tried it in Alaska for three years straight. There is way more to it than some may think. it's not easy work all depending where you go. It can get really expensive and there seems to be no end to it. More folks have lost their livelihood and lost everything trying this. It's not a bad hobby, who knows, you might make a big find and have it pay off.
