Default Slugs and treatment

Has anyone used Diatomaceous earth for anything? I read that you can sprinkle it anywhere and it won’t harm animals or people. It’s supposed to help with fleas, slugs, etc. My friend has fleas in her camper – not sure how they got in there. I told her to sprinkle this powder around in the camper and leave it closed up for about a week. I heard that it will work, anyone use it?

No, but my wife and I have used canning salt before. Sprinkle it everywhere and it dries out the fleas and the eggs. I have pets around so I don't like the diatomaceous earth. I'm always afraid they'll inhale it and cut up their lungs.

Now I read that it is not harmful to pets - only insects? I was going to try salt before I tried this earth stuff. I'm having a hard time keeping these beetles and slug like insects out of my food garden.

If you're having troouble with slugs in your garden give them a beer. Set out a number of jar lids or low saucers and pour beer in them. The slugs will go right to it. At least they'll die happy.

In all honesty I don't want to attract more - won't putting beer out attract them (even the ones not already in the flowers and plants)?

No way Refrig - who wants to share the good stuff?

I've tried beer to control slugs before. The one problem I had was that my dogs would get it before the slugs.

Awesome link Grandpa. Man just looking at them made me want to puke! They are gross little buggers. The article says that you can use Diatomaceous earth to get rid of the slugs. I wonder why they say you should remove by hand at night? Why not in the daytime?
