Default Stories from a landlord

I know landlords are always the bad guys, but I promise I am not bad. I own a few houses that I rent out and I swear I have some silly tenants. One called me last weeks claiming there was an electrical problem with their bathroom. It turned out that the light bulb needed to be changed. Another called to complain that there was dust on top of the refrigerator after a repair we made. We did in two days what would have taken at least a week with a professional, and did it right (I am well certified). This was a plumbing issue so we got it done with long, long, long hours. We had to rip out a wall and replace a good deal of old pipe, repair and paint the wall. So sue me that I forgot to dust the top of the fridge when I cleaned it all up. The tenant got it repaired in two days and had water back.... come on just dust the darn thing and don't call me to yell at me. I fix things right away and I know other landlords who don't do that. You think they would have appreciation that I actually care about my tenants, not just their paycheck.

Not a landlord, but my father is. I've seen some interesting things happen.

I think some people just always expect broom cleaned after a repair is made. Now as for the light bulb, maybe they are just a few short of a six pack themselves. That is a new one for me and we are actually thinking about renting one of our places out, now I am not so sure I could handle the dimwits.

I have a few properties also, many times I wish I didn't have properties......

I will NEVER be a landlord. My grandparent shave had rental houses my whole life, and even with careful screening when people leave 90% of the time majopr repairs and or cleaning has to be done.

My favorite "horror" story is the tenant who had ferrets with fleas and let them run (and shortly before they moved) use the bathroom all over the house. They also left the refrigerator full of meat with the door open and the power off. That was a joy to clean!

I could never be a landlord either! The meat story reminds menof my mom. She moved into a trailer, a long time ago, and the previous tenants had left a fridge and two deep freezes of spoiled meat! Who does that? My mom wouldn't have rented it, if she hadn't been desperate.

We cleaned out a house once, and brought a load to a private dumping area where we paid to drop stuff off. The bucket we had cleaned the fridge into they refused to take the smell was that bad.

But I still think the worst was one house the garage was about knee deep in junk. I forget the size dump can we used, but we filled that up, and took about a month of putting trash bags out at my parents house, both brothers and my house. That was also with people who took furniture off the curb. The person must have been a hoarder.

My dad rented his house out when he got married and moved in with his wife. The tenants seemed like nice people, but they left the house a mess when they left. The cost of repairs were insane. I don't think I would want to rent a house out either.

I own a two flat in town. The building is well maintained but I still get a little miffed at the tenants who get angry with me for expecting the rent to paid when it is due.
