| I'd rather be fishing. It's quite similar. You throw your bait into the water and hope that you will get dinner. You have no idea what will end up at the end of your line. It may be good and it may be an empty hook because you've once again been robbed by small fish that promise a lot but don't deliver.
We are not responsible for the candidates. They are presented as viable like a swirl in the water you think is a good fish. When we hook it, we find it isn't what we expected, but a waterlogged branch from an overhanging tree.
In this country, we don't elect the best person for the job. We elect the person most likely to be electable. Unlike fishing, we can't just rebait and try again. We're stuck for four years of excuses and pleas for re-election. "I'll get it right this time!"
Sure you will. That's what Teddy Kennedy said every time after his Chappaquidick speech. "When I returned, MAry Joe and the car were gone." It worked for 45 years.
