Default Boy Scout Ridge Snowshoeing Trip

My wife and I went on a 5.5 mile snowshoeing trip on Sunday at Boy Scout Ridge on the slopes of Mount Hood, Oregon. We were in the clouds most of the day, but the sun peaked out a few times. We hit one stretch of trail that required walking up on our toes using the cleats on our snowshoes for traction. It was probably nearly a 45 degree pitch. I wished I had crampons at the time. Anyone else snowshoed on such steep terrain? You can see pictures and my full report on my blog.

If it's not work, I love it. Check out my recent adventures.

I say the same thing and I have been doing my best to honor that the past few months. It really makes getting through the week much easier. Something to look forward to.

Wow! Quite the adventure. I'm not sure I would be up to the task of snow shoeing on 45 degree inclines. Would you go back and do it again?

I would definitely go again especially on a sunny day. It was icy when I went, so I suspect the slope would be much easier in powder although crampons would be my choice if I go again in the ice.

Looks like it was a great trip. I read some of your blog and it makes me want to jump a plane and go west. One day maybe.

Vermont looks like just as great a place. And it looks like you have more fresh snow than we do. We just got our first fresh snow in the mountains in three weeks and it wasn't much.
