Default Hanakapi'ai Falls, Kauai (03/01/11)

I recently came back from vacation on the rainy Hawaiian island of Kauai. Before the heavy rainstorms that characterized most of the trip, we were able to get out and hike some of the Kalalau trail. We hiked 4 miles to Hanakapi'ai Falls and back (8 miles round-trip). It was a different experience for me due to the nearly perpetually muddy conditions. Luckily it hadn't rained the prior couple days so the river crossings were not that bad. This trail was definitely worth it, but too most of a day. It is a strenuous hike because of the slippery conditions. Checkout all the pictures on my blog here.

If it's not work, I love it. Check out my recent adventures.

Wow! Amazing! The water looks inviting and the waterfall looks mighty high. Doesn't look that torrential but it still appears great. Can you go swimming in there?

You can definitely swim in the pool below the falls. Many people do. We were too cold to take a dip on our trip though.
