Default Unexpected winter camping (on a raft trip!)

So, as a dogsledding outfitter I spend alot of time winter camping. I have the best/warmest winter clothing there is...but I dont always have it with me!

In April 2009, a few buddies and I went on a multi-day float trip on Montana's Smith River- and it snowed almost two feet on us over the three days we were out.

Sadly, we were packed for summer adventures (Northern Rocky Mountain summer at least) and had the wrong gear....but we enjoyed it none-the-less

This looked like a great trip. I love me some winter camping too!

I have camped some in the winter, but I have never paddled down a river in the snow. Looks wicked and awesome at the same time. Very cool glad you enjoyed your trip.

Alice came to a fork in the road," Which road do I take"? she asked.
"Where do you want to go"? responded the cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter".

That looks beautiful, but yeah, if you weren't prepared for it, I bet you were cold!

In CO, it can snow at any given time in the high country, year round. It's just something to expect.

But you gotta admit, getting what you don't expect makes for the best adventures. Beautiful pics.

Looks great. I'm just not much for camping in the snow. It did look like a wonderful trip though. Test of endurance, eh? Nice country though even if it's a bit....er.....snowy.

Oh my gosh, that trip had to set a new low point on the mood scale.
Cool pics though.

LOL Brrrrrr! I got snowed on (about an inch or two) once turkey hunting in the WV mountains- was the first weekend of May, and we really weren't well-prepared, but then we were 18 and bulletproof. Tunred out to be a nice adventure and a "meaningful learning experience".
