Default Wind River Range, Wyoming 2011

Grandpa, I couldn't stand it any longer and had to take a peek at your Wind River Range album. Excellent pictorial trip report! I could feel your pain in a couple of those stream crossing pictures...that had to be a bit nippy! The scenery was incredible. Did you spend extended periods of time crossing snowfields? Were you able to stick with your general route? I'm looking forward to learning more about your trip. Thank you for getting your album posted so quickly!!!! I hope that you don't mind that I spilled the beans here!

Thanks Judy. We could not do our planned itinerary. We had intended crossing Washakie Pass, then back around past the Cirque of Towers and return over Jackass Pass. All the upper lakes were still frozen over and snow in the higher elevations. We may have been able to get over Washakie but would have had some scary spots on the other side and that would have been too dangerous considering our group was without crampons or snowshoes. I didn't take pictures of a couple of the stream crossings. We all had to stand by to help if someone slipped in the waist deep fast currents.

Instead we did a couple of basecamps and explored/wandered around those. It was still beautiful as all the Winds trips have been. This time the mosquitos were as bad as I have ever seen anywhere but still a great trip.
