Truth is sticks and I have trekked many trails together and have forgotten more than we can remember. Old school backpackers from ways back.

We bring the ones in bold... but we're not backpacking. We do take dried fruit, as well as fresh, granola bars (that I make before we go) trail mix is good... I have a jug of milk in the ice chest so no need for powdered. Oil/butter for cooking (french toast is a must LOL!) and I'd be disowned by my family if I didnt have the stuff for smores!
even though its not on the list... hubby always makes up a big batch of jerkey before we go!

It's good to know that I'm not the only one who does NOT have these foods. I love the beer comment - instead of milk. Although I do bring milk (for the kids). I don't think marshmallows are only for kids! I love them!

I bring dried fruit. For milk, I usually bring a tetra pack milk or rice milk product. That way I don't have to worry about water availability. I am not huge milk drinker anyway. I always bring dried meat of some kind and some high calorie items just in case.

What?? No ice cream or T bone steaks on the list? what kind of camping is that? I quit paying attention to other people's lists of what I should be doing way back when I was a kid and my mother had spinach seed on her spring gardening shopping list.

Next someone will be making a list and say that if we go camping we have to drive a Suburu and sleep in an MSR tent. Not that either would be a bad thing but I'm too onery and opinionated to eat what someone else eats. That's why they hand me a menu when I go to a cafe.

Heck I don’t even eat half of that stuff. How many do you always bring out of the list?

My camping is almost exclusively backpacking. For that purpose, with the exception of marshmallows, milk stuff and sausage, the list looks pretty normal to me.

A small container of olive oil goes a long way toward adding needed calories and flavor.

Dried fruit is a real treat. Trail mix can be any combination of things you want and is important for snacks... same with some sort of protein bar.. I make my version.

I always have a bit of powdered gatorde with me... though I don't get concerned about it being sugar free.

GORP
Cheese Sticks
Power Bars ~ Depends on my mood. Somedays I like them, some days I don't.
Emergen-C

But unless I've packed cereal for breakfast, I don't bring powdered milk. I usually do a mashed potato and bacon thing in a freezer bag. It goes down a lot easier in the mornings for me.

Except for marshmallows, I've taken all of those foods backpacking. I can't drink dried milk, but I use it to prepare instant puddings and creamy sauces for pasta or rice. The Knorr brand pesto mix is a treat with crusty bread or pasta. I also don't worry about going sugar-free when hiking. I bring a little gatorade mix, but usually enjoy my water unadulterated.
