Default Campground food

Do you ever eat at the campground when they put on their special meals? I mean like the local campground has a chicken bbq one night and a strawberry shortcake/ice cream social the next day on 1 of the weekends that we booked already.

We have never actually eaten at any of these, we always cook our own food. To me, that is what camping is about – grilling food and cooking on the campfire. The kids want to go to the ice cream social so I might let them.

Does your family do this?

We've never been to a campground that ever did that. It does sound like loads of fun though and a great way to meet the other campers. We always cook tons of food when we're out so we just invite people over.

Boy, I've been missing something. Campgrounds that serve meals and ice cream? Campgrounds with swimming pools? Do they have live bands and a dance floor? Do they have carnival rides too? Sounds like a county fair rather than a campground.

Afraid all we got is pit toilets, raging rivers, tall pines and an occasional bear. And thirty miles of dirt road to get there. And that's at the formal campgrounds.

Everyone has a different point of view when it comes to camping. I have done the primative and the family camping and both are great! It's nice to find a quite spot away from it all, but it is nice to go family camping and join together with other campers. We do a fall festival camp every year at Mistletoe State Park Georgia in Oct. and have a great time.

I'm not knocking it, just never seen anything like that around here.

Was at a KOA in SD that had a free pancake breakfast (all you can eat) with bacon, sausage and milk.

America is not the land of (get everything you don't deserve) Its the land the (work your ass off and make your own way), if you don't like it go to china, they have free health care and 1$ a day wages.

A privately owned campground in Maine that I was looking at has a Saturday night Lobster Bake/Roast (or something) on the beach during the summer. None of the State Parks that I have camped at advertised free food, people just shared. Some of the CCC built parks had a store where you could purchase ice cream sandwiches or cones.

I have to agree with grandpa. Here in the pacific northwest and areas alike I have never heard of anything like that. Somtimes the family camping could become the dinner served for the bears.
The places me and my wife camp normally dont even have out houses, tables or even designated spots. Most campgronds are nothing more than a designated fire use area. Where me and her spent our honey moon and camp alot the nearest facilties/town are 53-60 plus miles away. And then I dont think there is even a resturaunt open more than a couple of days a week.
It is alway fun to hear of campers from all over. This is a typical free campground in the california.7000 feet up and totally private
