Default Christmas Cookies

I must be out of my mind, but we are going to decorate Christmas cookies with our two year old in a little while. I know she will have a good time I just dread the mess!

Oh but it will be a happy mess! I'm sure she will enjoy decorating the cookies as much as she will eating them. Have fun and make some nice memories!

Take pictures! We did this with our little ones last week, and it was quite a mess. I got some really great candid shots though!

Feel lucky, my honey do list today is helping grandma make those silly little loaves of banana bread for gifts. Why tease them with a taste? If they are really friends, give them a whole loaf.

I love Christmas cookies and I love to decorate them too. It's going to be so much fun! Who cares if she makes a mess - its a great memory that you will have. Enjoy the cookies!

You are a braver soul than I am. I made cookies with my little ones, but not until they were in the five or six year old age. I'm not sure a two year old has enough dexterity.

Get a cake decorator and fill it with frosting. This will minimize the mess. Bake some gingerbread men and let her go. Take pictures.

I bake with my little girls (2 and 4) two or three times a week. They help me knead bread, cut cookies, roll pie crust, measure and dump ingredients, etc. It is always kind of a mess, but really, anything they do at this age is a mess. At least with baking, they're learning something, having a fun time, and we get something yummy to eat out of the project. My four year old is actually starting to understand a lot of the fundamentals pretty well. She says things like, "careful not to get the water too hot or the yeast won't work." She knows more about baking than most of my adult friends.

I did this with my little girl over the weekend too, and she had a blast and a serious sugar rush! Every time she decorated one she wanted to eat it too.

These are some of the most special times I can remember with my kids who aren't so little anymore. They always loved to mold the dough as if it was clay. Then they would sprinkle so much sugar on their special cookies you couldn't tell what color the dough was.
