Default Coal Baked Potatoes

An easy way to make baked potatoes is wrap them each in foil (you don't have to do this but then hopefully you don't mind the taste of ash :-)

Anyway, bury them under the coals of your campfire, turn them occasionally and they should be done in about half an hour.

Ooo--that sounds so good! Of course you will have to make sure you save some bacon from breakfast to crumble up and put on there. This would be great especially during chilly weather.

I love potatoes too and could probably eat them every day! *Especially* with cheese & bacon :-)

I love making them this way on the trail because it's so easy to do, really no prep time, except washing them, then just burying them for a while. Really healthy, too. Especially for hiking. Only thing I don't like is how heavy they are to carry in.

I've done that and they are delicious! I've also done sweet potatoes the same way and they are just as good. Does anyone remember the rosin baked potatoes that the Cracker Barrell restaurants they used to serve? I loved them! I don't know what it was about them but they were just good.

I do the same but I cut up peppers and onions and add a touch of butter and then wrap all that up and put the foil potatoes in the coal. The kids even love these types of potatoes. There is something about the peppers and onions that give the potatoes a better flavor.

Having seen an unwrapped spud blow up beside a fire, please put fork holes into it before wrapping it up and putting it in the coals: hot potato starch can do a number if it hits you in the face.

Grandpa, you're onto something. Just cut up or mince a bunch of veggies, potatoes and bacon or ground, beef or turkey, add seasoning, wrap it up in foil or some other lightweight metal container then bury it under hot coals. What an easy way to cook. You could even do breakfast like that with scrambled eggs, cheese and ham. I've never thought about that, always cooked on a grill over the fire.
