Default Cooking and Bad Weather

What camping stove do you use when you are away (or other cooking method) and how does it stand up to the weather? I mean both wind and rain, and how do you protect the stove from the elements?

If I'm out and it's cold, I just make sure I carry some Fire ribbon-use a fire paste to pre-warm the cooker. It lights easier that way. Rain is harder, but I'll cook under an awning, and use a wind break if I need it.

We use a Coleman PerfectFlow Instastart grill. I like that it has protection from the wind along the back and sides of the grill. I have never had any problems getting the grill to start either. It's perfect for me.

Pocket rocket knock off at the moment but soon to be getting a JetBoil. Almost any stove will do fin in bad weather. Just be aware that fir stove like mine that use a cannister of pressurized gas that the will not work as well at temps below 10 degrees or so. However you can work around this be leaving a canister in your sleeping bag at not or placing it in your jacket before cooking to warm it up

Yeah, those are great for car camping. Coleman's stuff is always top notch.

In the colder weather I carry some aluminum foil to use as a cozy around my pocket rocket. Minus 10F is the coldest I have used it, (just to see if it would work) but if the cannister was fresh out of the sleeping bag as Indiana said, it worked fine. Also, my trial was with a partial can, less pressure.

NOTE: when surrounding any cannister stove, make sure it doesn't get too warm or something more than the corn will pop.

For tailgate camping, we use a 2 burner camp chef and a Volcano II for the dutch ovens if we are in a no fire zone. We still do most of the cooking in the dutch ovens with coals when possible. If it is raining or the wind us up, we just delay supper until it dies down. We are not in a high wind or long rain area so we usually don't have to wait long.

DickinsonMarine.com - Marine Propane Barbeques

The large Sea-B-Que is what we have; it's stainless steel, and because it's meant for marine applications, it's tougher than Hell. While we prefer NOT to take it, yes, we have had occasion to do so.

We've had it for 12 years and it's not showing signs for wearing out, either: it's stored outside!

Cold isn't such an issue-we coped there. Do most of your stoves have a wind guard on them? And what about the rain? Some of my most miserable weekends away were spent trying to cook on a tiny Trangia on the side of a mountain in the rain.
