Default Drying on the Rocks

How effective is it to dry things on the rocks while you camp? Does it help if the rocks are warm from the fire? I am just curious.

If the sun is out, large rocks are good for drying hard to hang items. Around here, we always hang our food for protection from critters. When reaching the next campsite, my sleeping bag is the first item to hang from the "bear rope". I like to air it each day. After 30 minutes, the bag comes down and anything wet goes up. But after camping in a heavy rainstorm, there is too much wet so the rocks are used as well.

I prefer river smoothed rocks to dry articles of clothing, or hang them out on a stick and stretch them out for maximum air flow.

America is not the land of (get everything you don't deserve) Its the land the (work your ass off and make your own way), if you don't like it go to china, they have free health care and 1$ a day wages.

If the rocks are warm from the fire they are probably also covered in soot. That stuff is hard to get out of anything.

I particularly like to place damp wool socks on a rock near to a campfire. They dry quickly that way, and they feel great when you put them on while still warm.

We had an especially wet camping trip last year. It rained for days before we went. the weather was fine when we got there, but the ground was still wet, we had to hang our stuff to keep it dry, but we still had wet stuff as well.

Can't tell you how many times my tonneau has saved our gear from rain. A good tonneau is so valuable on a camping trip with a pickup.
