Default Great fire starters for campfires

I like to have lots of candles going in my house each evening. Just thought I would pass along a good use for all those candle "stubs"----just save them up---they make great fire starters for campfires.

I have taken old candles and melted them down...pour into a EGG carton full of dryer lint or saw dust , (ones that are cardboard) Cut out each egg pod and you have a fire starter that last several minutes.
You can also take a Juice Carton cardboard type and cut up into strips, They are already covered with paraffin and work very well.
Tell us your fire starter secrets...

Construction Adhesive, the type for plywood floor sheathing that comes in a tube like caulking. A few pumps of that in a zip lock bag and you can light a rock on fire.

Cotton balls saturated in vasoline.
Travels great with a magnesium fire starter in a ziplok sandwich bag.

I've done the same thing but I put used stick matches in the wax. It makes a bigger flame and lights the tinder quicker.

I also slice up PET bottles. These are the plastic pop bottles you're stuck with after drinking your Coke, SevenUp, or whatever. Cut them into strips and use three or four at a time. They burn readily and will start leaves and twigs in seconds.

Hand sanitizer works well for damp conditions, It will practicly burn on top of the water. I also like char cloth with flint, lights easly with a spark.

Wow, the wax in an egg box is a wonderful tip! I use so many candles, and I hate the commercial fire starters. This sounds like a wonderful use for the nubs.

add dryer lint from your dryer filter or use saw dust and pour your melt wax over completely as the egg crate material will absorb the wax. I use an old aluminum cookie sheet to do this in. When separating the top lid from the bottom place the bottom into the top giving you some protection for run off.

When all the pods has cooled off take a knife and cut each egg pod. These will last approx 4 to 5 minutes thus giving you plenty of fire starter to get damp kindling going.

I have a brother in law that is really going to appreciate this tip, thank you for sharing it with us all.

It is space saving too, it appears, and that makes it attractive, too.

My family loves a lot of bacon when camping. I soak up all the grease with paper towels and use it as firestarter. Throw the soaked paper towels in a ziploc bag and they catch easy and burn slow.
