OJ that you buy in a card board box 1/2 gallon size has a wax finish. Tear into strips and they too make good fire starters...water proof and easy...so the next time you buy OJ try getting a 1/2 gallon cardboard type and make some fire starters.

Not that I want to rain on any ones parade but Before Electric lights, Burning Candles for light was the number one cause of houses burning down . And that was one of the reasons Thomas Edison invented the light bulb , And I still believe its still one of the top causes that houses burn down . My Wife burns candles , I dont say any thing but it just makes me real nervus, like when we leave the house and she has left one burning.

twodogs those candles burning could be a prelude to a romantic evening with your partner. Take in those moments and enjoy them while you can. A happy woman makes life easy for a man.

I save milkweed pods and put them in the egg cartons along with the wax. Otherwise I use sawdust but you have to be careful if you pour it in the fire-it will combust quick so you have to have it down first.

I take them with camping with me , I light one to to help me get a fire going.and use them for lighting in my tent , But We Had a friend of some 30 yrs, had there house burn down a couple of weeks ago .And they lost every thing Not sure what caused the fire but I do know candles are a big cause of house fires And I would hate to see me or anyone else loose there home . I use waxed soaked tissue paper and cotton balls with a wick. There used to be something similar made commercially, but I can't find them anymore.

I buy paraffin wax from the grocery store and melt it in an aluminum pan in a pot of boiling water. I wrap a few cotton balls in a line with toilet paper (about 6-8 sheets if I remember). This creates a cylinder that I then wrap with string. I then drop this string wrapped cylinder into the melted wax until it is fully saturated. I let cool and then cut into 3-4 pieces. I'll have to take pictures and do a full how-to the next time I make a batch. They burn for 5-10 minutes and work real well for me.

Yea I agree ,,,,any time you have live fire inside safety is never an option.

More fires are created by those plug in aroma thingys now according to a local fireman here in Virginia. Speaking of candles have you seen these...........UCO Deluxe Candle Lantern - Brass, 80660 | Lanterns | Lights & Lanterns | GEAR | items from Campmor.

I have several different kinds of these and use them when romance is on the horizon in my tent.
