I love cooking over an open fire. Grilling/BBQ/Smoking/Dutch oven/fire pit if it involves being outdoors I love it. I can cook inside, but its just not the same. The wife prefers to cook inside anyway, and does not want to cook outside. So it works for us.

When we go tailgate camping, (not backpacking) we all take turns with all duties. Because we go as a 3 generation family, each sub-family takes a day for all cooking, cleaning, etc. Hubby's usually do the breakfasts, and wives the evening meals. Each family has their kids assigned various chores to help, depending on age and ability. Lunches are usually sandwiches, etc on a come and go basis. Each year, the girls hunt for new and delicous dutch oven dinners to surprise us with. Makes for some awesome eating. Whoever is in charge of a meal usually has plenty of help because we are all there to gab with each other anyway.

Wish my family were like that. Sadly my family all expects me to do absolutely everything and to provide anything that isn't alcohol. As a result I don't camp with family very often.

My husband does cook at home some, but he does all the cooking when we're camping too. I love it. It gives me a much better trip. Lucky for me, he's good at it.
