Homemade fire starter

I just made some homemade fire starter with wax and dryer lint placed in an egg carton. Anyone ever used these? I had the stuff lying around so I figured, what am I out.

Yup, I've done that before. Cheap and easy to make. You can add wood shavings in there too, or even pencil shavings.

Have you tried them out yet? What did you use them for? What did you put in them. Are there any other recipes you can use?

PET bottles make excellent fire starters. These are the plastic bottles you are stuck with after consuming your favorite carbonated beverage (other than beer). Cut them into strips, 1 to 2 inches wide and wrap with a rubber band and tuck them into your pack or haversack for a supply of firestarters that take up very little room.

I've made fire starters before.

Stuff dryer lint into toilet paper rolls and use masking tape to seal the ends. They are not the greatest things in the world, but will get the job done.

Wow, thanks for the great ideas, this was the first time I ever played with the idea so it was great that they worked for me, will cost less than the commercial ones I used to buy.

I've never heard of it before but it sounds like a wonderful idea. I'll make some for the wood stove for this winter. We always have tons of dryer lint because I'm always doing laundry.

I've used cotton balls with Vaseline on them to start fires, as well as drier lint.
