Default Improvised Baking

There are a lot of ways of baking bread when you are camping. One way is to wrap the dough on a stick and roast it. Then there is baking over a flat rock which has fire underneath it. What method do you use when you want to bake while camping?

I don't bake bread when I am camping. Both of those ways sound pretty interesting but I still don't do it. I take bread with me that we already baked at home or have bought in the store

I just did the bread on a stick for the 1st time last weekend, everyone LOVED it. I don't think I will ever be at another camp fire with out my dough and stick!!

As kids, stick bread was a mainstay on our outings. But then I married grandma, and she bakes the best dutch oven bread you can imagine.

I've made corn dodgers before (sort of a fried cornbread). I quite often make hardtack and bring it along.

I've made bread on a stick before but have never heard of baking it on a flat rock! That sounds pretty cool, but wouldn't it get dirty?

I don't usually rely on baking bread at camp.

A dutch oven works great for baking bread and just about anything else. I made very successful pizza and cheddar biscuits on a backpacking trip last week, using a single skillet with a lid over a little tiny stove. For the pizza, I spread the crust, cooked for a few minutes, flipped it, topped it, and put a lid on it to let it finish baking. For the biscuits, I dropped the dough in the skillet, put a lid on it, and flipped it once halfway.
