I know, he has even changed how I feel about SPAM! Although I like those tiny weenies that come in a can, so I am not sure why I have avoided it!

That it that is truly the heart of it. Thoreau couldn't have said it better.

Yeah, that was a good bit: "SPAM! I don't like SPAM!"

Hi...

I actually like Spam (the kind you eat), but it's a bit too bulky for my BOB. I do more camping than hiking, and find the freeze-dried foods most convenient. However, I usually include some tinned tomato or mustard sardines, peanut butter/and or cheese crackers, and always have some MRE crackers with me, a just-in-case food.

I will be experimenting with other foods, however. And, I have a few MREs left, but won't buy any more after they are gone...again, too bulky.

On other occassions, I may bring some home-made pemmican with me...VERY tasty...!!

Sometimes I will bring some sandwiches with me...tuna, chicken or egg salad...in soft plastic containers...and carry them in my cargo pockets.

When the chips are down,
the buffalo is empty.

Well said. Come to think of it, whenever I'm out camping, I'd pretty much enjoy just the simple stuff. The less frills the better. I guess the fact that you're outdoors makes them a whole lot better.

When backpacking, there are still a couple of Mt House entrees I really enjoy but at the end of the trail, a great big roast beef and swiss hoagie washed down with cold water hits the spot very well and will hold me until I get to a big greasy swiss, mushroom, baconburger and an icy cold cola.

In the campground, steak of course.
