Default orange peel muffins

My kids won't let us go camping without making these muffins because they think they're so fun.

Cut six oranges in half and remove the inside preserving the skin. Make your favorite blueberry muffin mix. Fill each orange skin halfway with blueberry muffin batter. Wrap in aluminum foil leaving the top a bit tented up so that there is room for the muffin to expand. Cook right side up on hot coals until done. 15-40 minutes depending on how hot the coals are and how big the muffins are.

Orange muffins

Here is another post very much alike this one. You should post to it and give them some tips. I've never made these but both recipes look pretty good!

We might have to try it the next time we camp.

Sounds like something my kids would like too. I think we will give it a shot. I wonder if the orange flavor flows through the muffin! I wonder if you could do this with apples too?

This sounds really good and reminds me of a recipe I saw at the doctor's office today. It was cheesecake stuffed peaches in a Better Homes & Garden. Yummy!

I have never tried making muffins, while camping, and did not even know orange peels could act as a pan! I am going to add this to my camping recipes, because I am sure it will be a hit!

Thanks, for sharing this recipe. I am going to test it out, on our next camping adventure. Does the orange peel give an orange taste to the muffins?

These are great muffins. We used to make these when I was a kid. The muffins really absorb the orange flavor from the peel. You want to nest them nicely in the coals for even cooking.

That's a great idea! I wouldn't have thought of something like that. I'll have to show my wife this thread and see if she wants to try it. We may have to try this out on the grill before we go camping and see what happens. Thanks for the idea!
