Default Picking Mushrooms

Would you dare to pick mushrooms on your own, even if it a sort that you have a good knowledge of? I know I wouldn't.

Not unless I was very hungry, I am not too fond of them really. There is a thing with me that if it tastes squishy for some reason it really makes me feel like I am not eating something nature even though I know better.

Yeah they have this weird texture and I know that a lot of people aren't fond of them, including me. But I guess survival may dictate other behaviors.

Sure- I would have no problem picking morels. There are a few others like puffballs and chicken-of-the-woods that are pretty well unmistakable. If I was in the least bit uncertain, I wouldn't touch one.

I happen to love mushrooms of all sorts, so i don't have the "ick" factor to deal with.

Unless you have private land, it is not legal to pick morels or any other mushroom here. It is a good law though because we do have quite a few poisonous mushrooms growing around here.

Mushrooms are great but you have to be careful not to pick the poisonous ones. My husband's grampa said that if a mushroom doesn't turn black when you pick it, it's edible. Otherwise, it is not.

I wouldn't go by that if I were you. I pick morels in the spring and love them. I just wish they grew all year long here. They are delicious fried in a cornmeal batter.

I love to take morels and sautee them in bacon fat and serve them on the side or in an omlette.

Morels and bluegill filets and hushpuppies....... yummmm!
