Default Recipes for Paper Campfire Cooking

I have heard that you can cook fish, in a wet paper bag, on a campfire. I was wondering, what other things you could cook using this method? Has anyone actually tried cooking with paper, while camping?

You can cook anything you can boil. The water on the inside of a paper bag keeps the fire on the outside. However, the bag will burn down to the water level so you get paper ashes inside. It's also messy trying to get it retrieved from the fire. Better than that is wrap the fish (or any other meal) in foil, then wrap that in wet paper, then wrap with foil again, making sure you have a good seal on both foil wraps. The wet paper barrier will prevent burning inside the foil thereby cooking the fish evenly.

Hi...

I've seen bacon and eggs cooked in a paper grocery bag. The bag was held over the campfire/coals with a stick.

The inside of the bag was coated with raw bacon fat, then the bacon and eggs were added. Came out surprising well, if I remember correctly.

I have seen people do it, but it always seems like a parlor trick. Steel or iron is a much more relaxing way to cook.
