Default Sleeping out in the open.....

Do you do it often or do you always sleep in the tent or trailer? Sometimes if it's really cool and nice out, with a full moon, we will take our sleeping bags or cots, which ever we are using at the time and sleep outside. It's very nice and great to do once in a while.

Oh yes, if it is a nice clear night and we're not somewhere that we are worried about Bears possibly showing up, we will take the sleeping bag and sleep out of the tent. It's nice looking up at the night sky.

When backpacking, never used a tent until the last few years. But, I started doing a lot more desert camping and worrying about sharing my sleeping bag with rattlesnakes and scorpions. Then came the granddaughters tagging along and decided it best to give them a little more privacy. But watching the night sky is still a nice way to fall asleep.

Did it a lot while I was in Panama, loved being near the ocean, hearing the waves break and enjoy the cool breeze.

That is how I sleep most of the time. Never use a tent I do carry a tarp if it looks like rain.

A@ Livingtocamp would joke with you like a did with a buddy. If a bear does show up that tent is really little more than saran warp keeping his dinner fresh. Take the proper steps to secure food and smellables and don't worry about sleeping outside of you really want to.

I love to. It's amazing the things you can see in the sky when you are away from all of the "light pollution". I like to think that I'm laying under the same stars that all of the old explorers have seen. Makes you wonder who has been there before you.

I would, but it's pretty swampy around where I camp, so you get et if you're not either surrounded by smoke from the fire or covered with something. Since the smoke goes away when the fire burns down and I don't like the idea of sleeping next to a roaring fire, I use a tent.

I've been looking into netting. I figure I can treat it with permethrin, then hang it from my walking stick so that it drapes and covers whatever part of me is out of my sleeping bag; I've already got a tarp that I can put up to keep any rain off. If I get enough netting, I can finally get around to making that camping hammock setup I've been dreaming of for a while.

My only issues with sleeping in the open are with bugs and heavy dew. I've slept out when the dew was so heavy I needed to dry my sleeping bag out before I rolled it.

As far as the bugs go, I guess I'm getting a little soft as I get older LOL.
