I need to check into these, I am very intrigued to try to build one myself for the sheer enjoyment of doing something for myself.

I make and sell alcohol stoves and cook sets. The problem I found was that there wasn't 1 alcohol stove that worked with all of my gear.

So instead of building the stove first and trying to piece together a versatile/functional cook set, I built the cook set first and then built the stove to match. My cook set can also use a windscreen so that you can burn wood to cook with the cook set instead/in addition to alcohol. This way you don't need to carry as much fuel for extended trips.

If you are interested in more information or help building stoves/alcohol cook sets send me a PM.

One that I have used that is cheap, works well and available at Walmart is made by coleman. Its only 25 bucks and is more durable than a pocket rocket. However being more durable is also heavier.

I bought one of these just as a quick replacement to a pocket rocket that failed and have been using since. Works great and it cheap. However as soon as they are released I planning to replace it with a Jet Boil.

This new on has a reduced price and look pretty nice.

Jetboil hasn't failed me yet. I only boil water with it since the heat can't be regulated.

Thumbs up

I also use the jet boil personal stove. this stove is self contained inside itself very light wieght and good on fuel. would highly suggest looking into it.

Hi...

For heating/cooking small items, I generally use a tiny (will fit in a shirt pocket) folding Esbit-type stove. The ones I use are unused German army surplus. Otherwise, I prefer a small campfire.

I don't like to carry flammable liquids in my BOB.

It is so easy once you do it the first time. Warning though.... they can be addictive.

Brother from another mother,

I haven't had any trouble out of my pocket rocket. Did you store it in the case?

Snow peak giga power. Tiny, powerful, adjustable. Haven't used in the field yet, but have set it up on the porch several times for testing various ideas.
