Default smoking with fire

I hate the idea of cigarette smoke in the woods to start with but what bugs me more are smokers who actually smoke around the campfire. This is where I eat, where we gather to stay warm and tell stories. This is not a smoking section. Am I wrong here?

Well I am a smoker and yes I have been known to smoke around the campfire. However before I do so I step back a good distance and stand on a place where the wind is blowing my smoke away. I speak for myself here but would be willing to bet that if someones smoking near you even when outdoors bothers you in anyway simply ask them politely if they are going to smoke please do so some place not so close to you. I know that I would not be offended or upset at all.

I am wondering why the idea of smoking in the woods is something that you hate. I for one practice leave no trace and all butts are carried out with me.

I am guessing you are one of few smokers who thinks that way. I have had house parties before where people knew we had both quit and they could smoke outside with an area we setup for them. Then we find ciggy butts all through the driveway.

That is just simply rude behavior in my opinion and they need some proper house breaking. Why throw butts on the ground if there is a provided container for them utter rudeness.

I usually don't trek very far,
when all around me smokers are.

Hi...

You're right...Indiana appears to be the exception. A real gentleman.

I simply can't stand cigarette smoke anymore. And to think that several years ago, I used to play poker in smoke filled rooms...!!

Corporal Reynolds...field strip that butt...now...or I'll field strip you...!! So there.

I hate to find cigarette butts everywhere. It's the height of rudeness to smoke and toss them out in my driveway like I have a whole driveway the shape of an ash tray. Neither my wife or I smoke or ever have so we make a nice little spot on the porch for the smokers with places to put their cigarette butts when they get done and they will still flick them out in the driveway. So I have to go police the area when everyone has gotten done.

On behalf of non-smokers, Indiana, I want to say "thank you" for your consideration. It's nice to hear of someone being considerate and thinking of others.

I've always done that. I was raised that way. I also don't throw my butts, or anything else on the ground. Again, it is just the way I was raised.

One of my greatest pleasures in life is to smoke my pipe in the evening near the campfire. That's long after supper, and nobody complains.

First, if it bothers you to be around smokers, why are you? My sister hasn't been to see me for 30 years cause she doesn't like the smoke. And I haven't told her I quit 10 years ago either.

I am also a quiter. When I smoked and hiked, I carried a little bait can on my belt with a spring loaded lid. That was my butt can/ash tray.

Other people smoking doesn't bother me at all. I still have some "triggers" that make me reach though. Sitting around a campfire is one of them.
