Venison = gamey

Hi...

Have you tried marinating the meat? I do that a lot...using a cup of red wine vinegar and two cups of dry red wine...plus whatever else you want to add...spices, veggies, etc.

I marinate mine for four days in the refrigerator, then braise it stovetop. That is SOOOO good...!!

There are lots of awesome tips here! We are definitely hoping to get some venison in the freezer this year so I will have to try them all and see what works best for us.

My grandmother used to cook wild game in stuff... Not sure what for deer. She would roast a duck in a pan with "cream of mushroom soup". It always came out great.

I understand part of the gamey taste of deer is how it's hunted. If you really hunt, i.e., sit in a tree and drop him with one, unexpected shot it will be a lot less gamey. A lot of people in my area say they are hunting, when really they are just driving the deer with dogs. That isn't hunting, just herding. The deer runs itself half to death first.
