Default Winter squash

Is there anyway to roast or cook acorn squash on the campfire? We are having a campout this weekend and my cousin is bringing acorn squash. I told him we could slice it and stick it on the hotdog sticks and grill over the campfire? Anyone ever tried this before? How did it taste? Would I want to put anything on it? Spices, brown sugar?

I'd think it would be pretty hard even after being cooked over the campfire, since every way I ever cooked it required prolonged boiling or baking (or some of both).

Never tried it that way tho, so I might be surprised.

I don't think you'll have much success putting it on a stick over the fire. I suspect it will be charred black on the outside long before it gets soft/cooked in the middle. You could easily bake it in a dutch oven if you have one.
If you decide to try the stick-over-the-fire idea, maybe wrap the squash in tin foil to improve the odds of success a bit.

You can try rapping it in foil and burying it in the coals away fron direct flame. It would work best to cut the squash to bite sized pieces.Yes it will take a while so start it a while before you eat.
