Default Bamboo Hiking Poles

Just finished these bad boys. Cut the bamboo from some wild growth near my house, dried the poles for a couple of weeks, cut to length, sanded them, fitted an insert into the bottoms of each to mount the tips, and stained them. Then, affixed rubber feet and added grips.

Total combined weight is 14oz., which is 4 oz. lighter than my girlfriend's $125 Leki poles.

Check 'em out.

Yeah, I'd kinda like to see them too. It sounds like you did a good job with them. I don't think any bamboo strong enough to do that where I live. We have some wild growth bamboo but it's not big enough to do something like that with.

I remember when most ski poles were bamboo, at least around here on poverty flat.

I'm anxious to see the pics New, guess we have to wait for Jason to moderate. Sounds like you did an excellent job with them.

That sounds great but I would love to see them too. I was always told that its not strong enough to hold the weight put on it being bamboo. Let's hope the images get fixed soon so we can all take a peek!

Turned out pretty nice Newanderthal! What are you using for the top hand grip? In Panama guys would find these small sapplings with a vine wrapped around them. After cutting it down and removing the vine, you would end up with a cork screwed looking staff. After staining and what ever else they wanted done to it. They would wrap the handles with 550 cord. Now a days you can get 550 cord in all kind of different colors relitively cheap. I like what you used on the grip, reminds me of a pool cue.
