Default Drawstring Backpacks

What are people using these for? I would think the heavier the item the less conformable it will be for the person who carries it. Maybe stick some light weight clothes in there or something??

I have an old canvas one that I take on hunting trips and hikes in to hot springs. It's sole purpose is for carrying the wet swim trunks, towels etc from the hot springs or for carrying the meat from a large animal if we have to bone it out to get the meat out. It then can go into the washing machine for cleaning.

Good answer, Grandpa. There is always some bag people don't understand. I have a kitbag, a possibles bag, a dittybag, and a haversack. Most people don't know what these are but I'll bet Grandpa does.

I like Grandpa's answer. Drawstring bags are good and functional for wet clothes or any object that drips liquid. Ozark Trail makes $5 sacks specifically for general outdoor use.

Are you talking about bags with arm straps on them, or "stuff sacks"?

In the old days, you would put your sleeping bag in one of these and lash it to the bottom of your external frame pack.

I bought a really big one once to protect my backpack on an overseas flight. The bag was trashed when I got home, but it served its purpose.

My first backpack was a haversack. I must have been about 8 when Dad came home from the army/navy store with that old bag. Never did know what the army used it for but that single strap always had me walking lopsided. But, it was big enough for one of those old wool sleeping blankets that the army issued several of for sleeping bags, and it held some bisquick for twist bread, and a few other things to eat when my friends and I went on our overnight adventures in the mountains around home. I was Army, not Navy so never had a ditty bag. I kept my razor etc in a kitbag but the name is more appropriately applied to sports gear bags. I still call my hiking quick reach pouch my possibles bag even though I'm not a black powder mountain man.
