Default Dream Sleeping Bag Too Expensive

I would love to own the Inferno sleeping bag, made by The North Face. Sadly, at the price it is now, I will never own one. Does anyone know of a sleeping bag that is similar, but a lot cheaper? Preferably, with the waterproof feature.

Your dreams, sure are expensive! Chances are, you are just paying for the brand name of the sleeping bag. I am sure there are plenty of cheaper bags, that are just as good or better than the Inferno.

You planning on climbing Everest. If not that bag is complete over kill. Heck you wouldn't even be able to sleep in at any temp above -10 or so. That bag is actually not expensive for bags in that class. Some good backpacking bags that are good only down to +30 can be $300 to $400 if the are light weight, good fill down, and very packable.

I would go with a 20 degree bag, and add a liner if necessary for cold weather use.

There are a lot of good quality down bags with waterproof shells. If you tell us about the conditions/temperature range you'll be camping in, and your budget, folks will probably point you in the right direction. I'm a cold sleeper (I'm freezing right now in my house, at 71 degrees actually), and enjoy winter camping in Idaho, but even for me, a negative 40 bag is overkill.

Two less expensive bags, one inside the other. Add a warm hat like a fur mad bomber, bivy sack, or blankets if necessary.

I don't understand the waterproof shell on a down bag. What if you sweat? What prevents moisture given off from your body from condensing when getting to this cold vapor barrier and getting the down wet?

Oh go for the bag you really want. You won't feel satisfied unless you do. There's not much between you and the ground---be good to yourself.
